Clinical Service for Patients: Complex Hyperlipidaemia

The Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust provides lipid clinics on the Hammersmith site. These clinics aim to investigate and offer therapeutic guidance to patients with all forms of dyslipidaemia, especially patients with, or at risk of developing premature cardiovascular disease. The clinics provide a full range of laboratory and non-invasive cardiovascular investigations. A special interest is genetic forms of hyperlipidaemia, including family screening and DNA analysis.

Hammersmith Hospital has the longest established lipid clinic in England. A LDL apheresis service is available for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia, which is unique in London.

Research interests include the monogenic and complex dyslipidaemias, particularly the familial hypercholesterolaemias, insulin resistance syndromes and diabetic dyslipidaemia.

The lead clinicians for this clinic are Professor Tim Aitman and Dr Rossi Naumova.
