Hammersmith Hospital is a national centre for the diagnosis and management of pancreatic endocrine tumours. Charing Cross Hospital houses the regional vascular service and the regional neurosciences unit, providing support in management of diabetic vascular disease and pituitary problems respectively. Charing Cross is a regional centre for pituitary surgery, and the Hammersmith has an unparalleled pituitary angiography service, so that the endocrine unit is a centre for the management of pituitary disease of all types, especially Cushing's disease.

Hammersmith Hospital Department of Endocrinology Clinical Services for patients Charing Cross is also a leading centre for the use of radioiodine in-patients with hyperthyroidism.

Approximately 1000 new general endocrine outpatients are referred to the Endocrine Departments at Charing Cross and Hammersmith Hospitals annually. Both hospitals hold two endocrine out-patient clinics a week and a weekly post-clinic meeting is held at each hospital. The post-clinic meetings are attended by all the junior and senior members of the department to discuss the best management of every endocrine patient seen in our clinics. They ensure that all of our patients get the best clinical management possible. The case mix of the general endocrinology is extremely varied and both hospitals are in a position to investigate and manage the entire spectrum of clinical cases referred.

The endocrine in-patient services have approximately 5-10 endocrine patients in the wards at each of the hospitals undergoing either investigations or surgery. Examples of the case mix of the patients admitted include Cushing's syndrome, neuroendocrine tumours and patients undergoing pituitary surgery and embolisation for metastatic disease.
